Peter Getzels
Harriet Gordon Getzels

PETER GETZELS

Peter is an Emmy-Award winning documentary producer, director and cinematographer. In addition to documentaries he leads a team in the production for Closer to Truth, a high-end science series on cosmology, consciousness and meaning. Closer to Truth is now in its 16th season on PBS. In the UK Peter produced independent documentaries with Harriet for Channel 4 and BBC, working for the BBC Science Department on one of the first co-productions between Discovery and BBC. In the US he worked on staff at National Geographic, producing a wide range of adventure/history films and series for Explorer. Peter was trained as an Anthropologist and worked professionally as a climber and explorer throughout South America and the Himalayas.

HARRIET GORDON GETZELS

Once an American ex-pat living in the UK, now a British ex-pat living in the US, Harriet has a long track record of award-winning independent documentaries made with Peter for British, American and European television. Her subjects range from long-term character-driven narratives to cutting edge science, and the fringes of religion. Her short digital narratives combine still photography with video, and take on subjects from the environment to brain science to addiction. In the US she has produced for National Geographic, Discovery and HDNet. Based in Oxford, England for sixteen years and now in Washington DC, Harriet is co-owner of Getzels Gordon Productions. She is also an award-winning writer of narrative non-fiction.

CATHERINE SHIELDS

Catherine Shields has cut documentaries for PBS, National Geographic, the Discovery Channel, and a vast array of independent filmmakers. Two films that she edited for Guggenheim Productions won Academy Awards, and her work has earned four primetime Emmy Awards. She edited the feature documentaries George Stevens: A Filmmaker’s Journey and Harvest of Empire, as well as biographical films of legends such as Yo Yo Ma, David Letterman, and Meryl Streep for the annual Kennedy Center Honors. Her most recent film for Getzels Gordon is The Penguin Counters. 

MARC MASTERS

Marc Masters has been co-editor of Closer To Truth for 8 years. He has been an editor for 18 years, with credits on programs for PBS, Discovery, National Geographic, Travel Channel, History Channel, and more. His writing has appeared in the Washington Post, NPR, Pitchfork, The Wire, The Washington City Paper, and more. He is the author of the book "No Wave" (Black Dog Publishing, 2008).

PATRICK FOUST

As an Assistant Editor, Patrick is involved in every stage of production including the maintenance and organization of Closer to Truth’s vast digital asset library. He has edited over 500 interviews that now appear on the CTT website. Patrick graduated with a degree in International Relations from Georgetown University, but soon found that he was more passionate about filmmaking. After starting with an internship at Getzels Gordon in 2012, he rapidly expanded his skill set to become a full time Assistant Editor.

DIGITAL MARKETING

STEVEN KOSTANT

Steven Kostant is an Executive Integrated Marketing Strategist who specializes in integrating creative, brand, and digital content strategies for business and organizational objectives. He has worked extensively with the world’s leading corporations, global non-profit organizations, and the public sector nationally and internationally.

PATRICK HAYES

Patrick Hayes is a Digital Content Strategist. He has worked in content marketing, publishing and journalism for the past eight years. He holds a Masters Degree in Strategic Communications from Columbia University and a BA in English from Williams College. At Closer To Truth, he is a digital content strategist within the digital marketing team.

NEHA JAIN

Neha Jain specializes in digital marketing, corporate communications, content marketing, and filmmaking. Prior to joining the Closer To Truth team, she worked with REI Systems, Sony Tristar, Lumiere Productions, and Bollywood (the Indian film industry). Neha received her B.A. in Literature from Bard College, a project management certification from U.C. Berkeley, and an M.P.S. in Public Relations and Corporate Communications from Georgetown University.

SHAKERS AND MOVERS

MATT BABCOCK

Matt is Post Production Supervisor at Getzels Gordon. He has worked in post-production for over 10 years for a variety of programs for Discovery Communications, MSNBC, Smithsonian Channel, and National Geographic. At Getzels Gordon he manages the tech and workflow design for all productions and saves everyone from the technical abyss on a regular basis. Matt is also the co-founder of North at Noon. 

CHRISTINE RYAN

Christine has been part of the team since 2012, now working as an Associate Producer. A DC native with a BA in English Literature from Georgetown University, Christine has worked in the entertainment industry as a casting assistant, prop-master, stage manager and social media intern. At G2, in addition to AP work, her focus is on research, graphic design and all things creative. 

CATHERINE GRUBB

The newest addition to the team, Catherine Grubb is a Production Assistant and receptionist for Getzels Gordon. She contributes her diverse skill set to a wide range of projects, and keeps the office running smoothly. Catherine holds a BS in Neuroscience from Temple University, and is an avid reader, camper and rock climber.
